Day 4 MPI: Number

I really like the Turbocharge part of the RAT acronym—it’s definitely something I need to work on more in maths. I hadn’t thought about using Adobe Express to share learning, but I’ll give it a go next week! What a great way to foster student engagement.

I liked Elena’s video modelling this. I had not thought about looking for patterns vertically or horizontally. This is on my plan to teach fractions as numbers next week.

Introducing maths vocabulary in a way that students really understand is an idea that I hadn’t thought of, but would love to incorporate in my teaching practice and will share with my colleagues. I like the way that students find a picture to represent their understanding, too.

  1. Kia ora Andrea,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It’s great to see you’re exploring more tools like Adobe Express to turbocharge your students' learning and make maths even more engaging for them. It’s awesome that the choral counting video sparked new thinking around identifying various patterns. I love having those conversations with students as they discover more patterns, grow in self-confidence, and develop a love for maths. I’m sure your students will benefit from this activity too:)

Ka pai for planning to incorporate maths vocabulary in a meaningful way and using visuals to represent understanding. This approach really helps students deepen their connection to mathematical language. It’s great to hear you’re planning to share these MPI strategies and resources with your colleagues - I’m sure they’ll appreciate them!

Keep up the great mahi, and I look forward to hearing how it goes with your learners!
    Nga mihi

  2. I've enjoyed reading your reflections, Andrea. I love that you're getting inspired from the learning and I enjoy reading about how you'll put this into practice. I agree about the vocabulary and I know that my students are benefiting from this in my practice too. I look forward to hearing about your next session :)
