Day 5: Algebraic Thinking

I like this example of Learn Create Share that Dorothy shared with us. It would be a very engaging activity for students to do in my classroom.

Georgie’s idea of laminating Maths Talk Moves sheets for students to use as prompts to add ideas, etc, during classroom discussions is great. Also, using Number Talk will be a good way to share new vocabulary with students.

This is a great reminder for my students, and I will cover it when I am next in the classroom. I have not shown my students the ‘not equal’ symbol before.

I will share this video with my syndicate as well, as I'm sure if others have covered it recently.

  1. Kia ora Andrea,

Thanks so much for your reflection on the algebra day, it's such a fun one! I'm glad the videos worked for you, and I agree, your learners will get a kick out of it too!
The talk moves are such a great prompt for kids, and having them really visible does help our learners to feel successful when discussing. Let me know how it goes!

    Have a great week,
    Georgie
