I like Dorothy’s reminder that we should share our learning and teaching using digital tools, which saves so much time. Rather than recording teaching on the board, which can limit student engagement and take so much time, learning is quickly accessible on the class site or Hapara dashboard. Having links ready to go on sites rather than having students bookmark sites that are used during the year is something I need to do.
I also like the 3 click rule. I will check my slides and ensure this is happening for my class as well as the key features in site design.
These are going well in our class. I like to change the groups every now and then as the dynamics between some children limit participation and engagement.
I briefly introduced estimation to the class yesterday when teaching rounding to the nearest dollar. This is a new concept that most children found hard to understand. Next time, I will link it to real world learning and prior knowledge.
I appreciate the opportunities for collaborative learning, they’re really valuable. It's fantastic to be able to explore other people's ideas and discover so many amazing resources all in one place. It’s a huge time saver and makes the learning process so much more efficient and enjoyable!
Kia ora Andrea!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your reflection. Great to hear how you're thinking about using digital tools more efficiently, as it really does make such a difference in saving time and empowering students.
Your reflection and thinking for action around improving your class site and use of bookmarks will definitely help with smoother transitions between activities for your learners. The three-click rule is a great way to check if content is easily accessible. Little tweaks like this can make a big impact on the effectiveness of your class site and engagement!
Love that you're being intentional about group changes to maximise participation - sometimes a fresh mix can definitely help with engagement and collaboration, and I hope our session about grouping gave you some ideas to support your practice.
I love conversations about estimation - so much fun for kids:) and it goes beyond just maths! You're spot on for making connections to real-life contexts and students’ prior knowledge. I hope our sessions about planning and facilitating of rich tasks will also support your teaching. Looking forward to hearing how it goes next time.
I also love our collaborative learning and planning during MPI. It’s amazing how many great ideas and resources we can pick up from each other!
Keep up the awesome mahi, Andrea! Hope you have a smooth end of Term 1 and enjoy the school holiday break!
Ngā mihi,
Elena
